400g ground beef (80/20 fat ratio)
Salt and black pepper, to taste
For the Grilled Cheese:
4 slices of white bread
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
4 slices of cheddar cheese
For Assembly:
Extra slices of cheddar cheese (optional, for double cheesiness)
Instructions

Prepare the Beef Patties:
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and roll into balls.
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Place a beef ball on the hot skillet and press it down firmly with a spatula to form a thin patty.
Season with salt and black pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until crispy edges form.
Add a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and let it melt.
Make the Grilled Cheese Sandwiches:
Butter one side of each bread slice.
Place two slices of bread, butter-side down, on a skillet over medium heat.
Add a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each piece. Place another bread slice, butter-side up, to form a sandwich.
Cook until golden brown on both sides and the cheese is melted. Repeat for the second sandwich.
Assemble the Smash Burger:
Place one cheeseburger patty on top of a grilled cheese sandwich.
Add the second cheeseburger patty and top with the second grilled cheese sandwich.
