Ingredients
For the Steak Patties:
1 pound (450g) ground beef
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon mustard (optional)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
For the Gravy:
2 tablespoons butter
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
2 cups beef broth
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
Prepare the Steak Patties:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, finely chopped onion, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Mix until well combined, then shape the mixture into 4-5 oval patties.
Brown the Patties:
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of oil.
Cook the patties for about 4 minutes on each side until browned (they don’t need to cook through yet).
Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
Make the Gravy:
In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
Add sliced onions and mushrooms (if using), and sauté until softened and golden, about 5-7 minutes.
Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir until coated.
Gradually whisk in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup.
Simmer for 2-3 minutes until the gravy thickens slightly.
Cook the Patties in Gravy:
Return the browned patties to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy.
Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through and the gravy is rich and flavorful.
Serve:
Transfer to plates and serve with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or steamed vegetables.
Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
