French Onion Beef and Noodles Recipe
Ingredients
For the Beef:
2 tbsp olive oil or butter
1 lb beef chuck roast or stew meat, cut into bite-sized pieces
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Sauce:
2 large onions, thinly sliced
3 garlic cloves, minced
2 cups beef broth
1/2 cup dry red wine (optional, substitute with beef broth if preferred)
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves (or 1 tsp dried thyme)
1 tsp sugar (to enhance caramelization)
For the Noodles:
12 oz egg noodles or fettuccine
2 tbsp butter
Optional Garnish:
Fresh parsley, chopped
Grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Sear the Beef:
Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Season beef pieces with salt and pepper. Sear on all sides until browned, then remove and set aside.
Caramelize the Onions:
In the same skillet, add the sliced onions. Cook on medium heat, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes, or until deeply golden and caramelized.
Add the garlic and sugar; cook for 1-2 more minutes until fragrant.
Deglaze the Pan:
Pour in red wine (if using) and scrape up the browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes to reduce slightly.
Simmer the Sauce:
Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Return the seared beef to the skillet. Cover and let simmer on low heat for 20-25 minutes, or until the beef is tender and the sauce has thickened slightly.
Cook the Noodles:
Meanwhile, cook the egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and toss with butter.
Combine and Serve:
Pour the beef and sauce over the noodles. Toss to coat evenly. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
Garnish with fresh parsley or Parmesan cheese if desired.
