Creamy Potato Gratin

Description

Creamy Potato Gratin

Ingredients:

4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

2 cups heavy cream

1 cup milk

3 garlic cloves, minced

1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

2 cups shredded Gruyère or Parmesan cheese (or a mix)

Salt and black pepper to taste

Butter for greasing the baking dish

Instructions:

1. Preheat Oven:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Butter a medium-sized baking dish generously.

2. Prepare the Cream Sauce:

In a saucepan, combine the heavy cream, milk, minced garlic, thyme, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.

Heat gently over medium-low heat until warm (do not boil).

3. Layer the Potatoes:

Arrange a single layer of potato slices at the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

Pour a small amount of the warm cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with shredded cheese.

Repeat the layers until all the potatoes, cream, and cheese are used, finishing with a generous layer of cheese on top.

4. Bake:

Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25–30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.

5. Rest and Serve:

Let the gratin rest for 10 minutes before slicing to allow the layers to set.

Garnish with extra thyme if desired and serve warm.

Tips:

Use a mandoline slicer for uniform potato slices.

For a crispier top, broil for 2–3 minutes after baking.
