Creamy Potato and Cheese Bake

Ingredients:

For the Dish:

1 kg (2.2 lbs) potatoes, thinly sliced

200g (7 oz) cooked bacon, crumbled

200g (7 oz) shredded mozzarella cheese

100g (3.5 oz) grated Parmesan cheese

For the Sauce:

500ml (2 cups) whole milk

200ml (3/4 cup) heavy cream

50g (1/4 cup) unsalted butter

2 tbsp all-purpose flour

1 tsp garlic powder

Salt and pepper to taste

For Garnish:

Fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven:
Set your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a baking dish.

2. Prepare the Sauce:
In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk until smooth. Gradually pour in the milk and cream, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Add garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer until the sauce thickens.

3. Assemble the Dish:
Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of the bacon and half of the mozzarella cheese. Pour half of the sauce over the layer. Repeat the process with the remaining potatoes, bacon, mozzarella, and sauce. Finish with Parmesan cheese on top.

4. Bake:
Cover the dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.

5. Garnish and Serve:
Let the dish cool slightly, then sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.
