Classic Cheese Pizza
Ingredients
For the Dough:
2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp olive oil
For the Sauce:
1 cup canned crushed tomatoes
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/4 tsp salt
For the Toppings:
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Optional: grated Parmesan and fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
Prepare the Dough:
In a small bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Gradually add yeast mixture and olive oil, stirring until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Make the Sauce:
In a small saucepan, mix crushed tomatoes, garlic powder, oregano, and salt. Simmer for 10 minutes. Set aside to cool.
Assemble the Pizza:
Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C). Place a pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven to heat.
Roll out the dough on parchment paper to your desired thickness. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough.
Sprinkle shredded mozzarella on top.
Bake:
Carefully transfer the pizza (with parchment) onto the preheated stone or baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
Serve:
Garnish with Parmesan and fresh basil if desired. Slice and serve hot!
