Baked Macaroni and Cheese

This classic comfort food combines macaroni with a creamy, cheesy sauce and a crispy, golden-brown top.

Ingredients:
For the Pasta:

1 lb elbow macaroni

Salt for boiling the pasta

For the Cheese Sauce:

2 cups milk

2 cups heavy cream

4 tbsp butter

4 tbsp all-purpose flour

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

For the Topping:

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

2 tbsp melted butter

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions:
1. Cook the Pasta:

Boil a large pot of salted water and cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
2. Make the Cheese Sauce:

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux (paste).
Slowly add the milk and cream, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
Stir in the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese until fully melted and smooth. Add mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
3. Combine the Pasta and Sauce:

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring until the pasta is well coated.
4. Assemble the Baked Mac and Cheese:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish.
In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, breadcrumbs, and grated Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the mac and cheese.
5. Bake:

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy.
6. Serve:
