Baked Mac and Cheese

This baked mac and cheese is a cheesy, creamy, and indulgent dish with a perfectly crisp top layer. It’s a comfort food favorite that’s perfect for any occasion, from weeknight dinners to family gatherings.

Ingredients

For the Pasta:

1 lb elbow macaroni

1 tbsp salt

Water for boiling

For the Cheese Sauce:

4 tbsp butter

¼ cup all-purpose flour

3 cups whole milk

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp mustard powder (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

For the Topping:

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

2 tbsp melted butter

1 tbsp chopped parsley

Instructions

Cook the Pasta: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the elbow macaroni until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Make the Cheese Sauce: In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Continue to cook, whisking occasionally, until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

Add the Cheese: Reduce heat to low and stir in the shredded cheddar, mozzarella, and grated Parmesan cheeses. Add garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder (if using), salt, and pepper. Stir until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combine the Pasta and Sauce: Add the drained pasta to the cheese sauce and mix to coat the pasta evenly.

Prepare the Topping: In a small bowl, mix the panko breadcrumbs with the melted butter. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the mac and cheese in the baking dish.

Bake: Transfer the mac and cheese to a greased baking dish. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley.

This baked mac and cheese is super cheesy and comforting with a crispy topping! Would you like to share this recipe with your followers too?
