Cheesy Herb and Caramelized Onion Bread Recipe
Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups (315g) all-purpose flour
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
2 tsp active dry yeast
1 cup (240ml) warm water
2 tbsp olive oil
1 cup (100g) shredded mozzarella cheese (or any melting cheese)
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1 tbsp butter
1 tsp dried thyme (or fresh)
1 tsp dried rosemary (or fresh)
Optional: 2 tbsp chopped nuts for topping
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Dough:
In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt.
Dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients and knead into a soft, elastic dough. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
2. Caramelize the Onions:
In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until golden and caramelized (about 20 minutes). Stir in thyme and rosemary, then set aside.
3. Assemble the Bread:
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface. Spread the caramelized onions evenly, followed by the cheese. Roll the dough tightly into a log and place it in the prepared loaf pan.
4. Top and Bake:
Optional: Brush the top with olive oil and sprinkle with chopped nuts or extra herbs for added texture and flavor.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
5. Cool and Serve:
Let the bread cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
