Hamburger Steaks with Onion Gravy and Potatoes
Ingredients
For the Hamburger Steaks:
1 lb ground beef
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and black pepper, to taste
For the Onion Gravy:
2 tablespoons butter
1 large onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons cornstarch (mixed with 2 tablespoons water)
Fresh thyme (for garnish, optional)
For the Potatoes:
2 cups baby potatoes, halved
2 tablespoons olive oil
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Directions
Prepare the Hamburger Steaks:
In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into 4 patties.
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a drizzle of olive oil and sear the patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
Cook the Potatoes:
In the same skillet, add the baby potatoes with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes until golden and tender. Remove and set aside.
Make the Onion Gravy:
Melt butter in the skillet and add sliced onions. Cook for 5-6 minutes until caramelized. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up any browned bits. Stir in the cornstarch mixture and let the gravy simmer for 3-4 minutes until thickened.
Combine Everything:
Return the hamburger steaks and potatoes to the skillet, spooning the gravy over the top. Let simmer for 5 more minutes until the steaks are fully cooked.
Serve:
Garnish with fresh thyme if desired, and serve warm with extra gravy.
