Baked Macaroni and Cheese

A creamy, cheesy macaroni and cheese baked to golden perfection with a crunchy top. The ultimate comfort food for any occasion!

Ingredients
:
1 lb elbow macaroni

4 tbsp butter

4 tbsp all-purpose flour

4 cups milk

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp Dijon mustard
(optional for extra flavor)
Salt and pepper to taste

½ cup breadcrumbs (for topping)

2 tbsp melted butter (for topping)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions
:
Cook the Pasta:

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente (about 7-8 minutes). Drain and set aside.
Make the Cheese Sauce:

In a large saucepan, melt 4 tbsp butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk for 1-2 minutes to create a roux (this thickens the sauce).
Slowly add the milk while whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Cook and stir until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
Reduce the heat to low and stir in the shredded cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses until fully melted.
Add the garlic powder, Dijon mustard (if using), salt, and pepper to taste.
Combine the Pasta and Sauce:

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until the pasta is fully coated with the sauce.
Prepare for Baking:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Transfer the mac and cheese mixture into a greased baking dish or cast-iron skillet.
In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with 2 tbsp melted butter, then sprinkle evenly over the top of the mac and cheese for a golden, crispy topping.
Bake:

Bake the mac and cheese in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy.
Serve:
